Thousands flee Sudanese army’s scorched-earth military campaign

In interviews this week, refugees who’ve made it to South Sudan described a Sudanese military offensive that began in May and has driven at least 40,000 people from their villages. The refugees report that their villages have been burned and their neighbors and family members hunted down and killed. Others died on the long walk to South Sudan.
