The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.
Two tanker trucks were blown up with sticky bombs while they were waiting to be filled with petrol at Baiji Oil Refinery in Baiji, 35 km to the north of Tikrit Wednesday morning, injuring three drivers; and another two trucks which were also carrying sticky bombs were discovered and defused by the Iraqi security forces later in the day.
A suicide car bomb targeted a U.S. military convoy in al Sijir neighbourhood, close to the industrial area in northern Fallujah leaving one military vehicle burning according to eye witnesses. One civilian car was also damaged and the driver injured in the blast. The U.S. military cordoned off the area so that not even Iraqi police were allowed near the site. The U.S. military confirmed: "We have confirmed that the attack was from a suicide vehicle-borne IED. There were no coalition fatalities; however, there were three U.S. Marines wounded in the attack."
Iranian snipers shot at three Iraqi fishermen fishing in al Atheim swamp (which extends into Iran), 70 km to the east of Amara Wednesday killing two and injuring the other, Iraqi police said.
A roadside bomb targeted a U.S. military convoy in Ras al Jada neighbourhood, western Mosul at 2 p.m. Thursday injuring two civilians. No casualties were reported on the American side.
- A man threw a grenade at an American patrol in the Ras al Jadda neighborhood in Mosul around 4 p.m., local police said. After the explosion, U.S. soldiers shot and killed a 12-year-old boy standing nearby, the police said. The U.S. military confirmed the attack but said it happened around 3 p.m. The military said U.S. soldiers killed one person and wounded another after the attack, but American officials could not confirm the age of the person killed.
- A roadside bomb targeted an American patrol in Ghuzayza neighborhood in northern Basra in the afternoon. No casualties were reported.
