One of the fiercest battles in America's eight-year war in Afghanistan killed nine U.S. Army soldiers, left 27 others wounded and forced the U.S. to abandon a valley in eastern Afghanistan last July. Now an official Army study of the battle documents a series of command missteps in the days preceding the battle.
