House prices in California show the good and bad of the bust

What happened over the past decade in California's Stanislaus County is nothing short of stunning, as shown by median price figures from MDA DataQuick, a real estate tracking firm: the median price of a house hit $396,000 in late 2005; it had been $122,000 in 1999. In February of this year, it was just $140,000.
