It’s been open only since June, but the new Cowboys Stadium in Arlington has already added to Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ net worth, or so says Forbes magazine in its latest list of the 400 richest Americans.
Jones is one of only 28 members of the Forbes 400 list to increase their net worth during the recession this year.
The financial magazine estimates Jones’ fortune at $1.8 billion, up 29 percent from $1.4 billion last year. That puts him at No. 196, up from No. 355 a year ago. With the NFL franchise pocketing millions of dollars from the sale of personal seat licenses, which cost $2,000 to $150,000, Jones has used the proceeds to pay down $425 million in debt, Forbes said.
"I'm very proud of the fact that my position in that group comes, in no small part, from the world of sports," Jones told Forbes.
Jones wasn't the only Texan to make money in the down economy.
