‘Ripper Street’ returns on BBC America, its future unknown

A new season of “Ripper Street,” a richly drawn, sometimes brutal, historical police procedural, returns Saturday to BBC America. In 1890, Detective Inspector Edmund Reid (Matthew MacFayden), his Detective Sergeant Bennet Drake (Jerome Flynn), and an American, Captain Homer Jackson (Adam Rothenberg), face the restless tides of the British Empire washing up on the mean streets of Whitechapel, a decade after Jack the Ripper made the area notorious by murdering prostitutes.
