Energy Department weighs earlier start for Hanford nuclear waste treatment plant

A plant that will turn radioactive waste at the Hanford nuclear reservation into a solid glass form for disposal could start three years early, under a plan the Department of Energy is considering. The plant now is set to begin in 2019 treating waste left from the development of the nation's first nuclear weapons.
