Former Myrtle Beach Mayor Mark McBride acknowledged several months ago being the controversial online commentator "Elmer Fudd," a business associate said Saturday after being subpoenaed by an attorney for the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.
The Myrtle Beach chamber has accused "Elmer Fudd" of posting false and defamatory information on TheSunNews.com, and has been seeking the person's true identity in a "John Doe" lawsuit.
"He told me he was Elmer Fudd," said Ward Shepherd, who founded but has since resigned from the board of the Grand Strand Chamber of Commerce. "I said 'Oh my God.' ... I told him to come forward. He had the opportunity to do the right thing.''
McBride, president of the Grand Strand Chamber of Commerce, did not pick up his phone Saturday but has previously refused to say whether he is Elmer Fudd.
Grand Strand Chamber of Commerce spokesman Todd Cartner deferred questions about the case until Monday.Read this storyTheSunNews.com
