For 45 minutes Monday night, retired Gen. Colin Powell talked about the virtues of leadership.
He told the more than 900 people attending the Jim Blanchard Leadership Forum at the Columbus Convention & Trade Center the qualities a leader must have, based on his nearly 50 years of United States military and diplomatic service.
He talked of integrity, honesty and inspiring people to follow.
Then Kat Cannella asked the former Secretary of State a simple question. The 26-year-old coordinator of continuing education at Columbus State University wanted to know how young leaders of the “Now Generation” could lead those from generations past.
The 72-year-old Infantryman returned Cannella’s question with a question.
“Did you just call me a fossil?” Powell asked.
Not at all.
What she did was hit on a finer point of a topic that Powell had spent time talking about earlier in the night.
