RALEIGH — Summer vacation ended today for thousands of Wake County students who attended the first day of classes for year-round schools.
More than 40,000 of the estimated 140,000 Wake students attend 51 year-round schools across the district.
Parents no longer have to give permission for their students to attend a year-round school after a court case the school district won in May.
"We’re trying to help these families adjust," said James Argent, principal of the new Lake Myra Elementary School in Wendell, which has 40 students whose parents had previously refused to give consent for year-round schools.
