GULFPORT, Miss. — Despite hearing the tragic news more than three days ago, Selma McNair is still shocked and grieving over the loss of his son, Steve McNair.
The former MVP of the NFL died July 4 in Nashville from four gun shots that rocked the world of the National Football League with the loss of one of its ambassadors.
For Selma McNair, who has lived in Gulfport since 1985, the phone call parents fear the most came from his oldest son, Fred McNair.
“He said, ‘Pop, what are you doing? Are you sitting down?’” the eldest McNair said. “I’ve got some bad news. ‘He’s gone. Steve is gone.’
“Everything went downhill from there.’’
