Recent rains don't dampen holiday spirits
Despite damage from recent storms, state parks and lakes are preparing for what could be record-breakingcrowds.
Jim Hanni, executive vice president of AAA Kansas, said reports indicate a third of travelers in the Midwest are expected to travel to lakes and other recreational spots during the Fourth of July holiday.
In the Midwest, AAA projects an estimated 6.5 million people -- 1.7 percent fewer than last year -- will drive 50 miles or more for the holiday than last year.
"Clearly, gas prices are continuing to take a toll on the traveler's budget," Hanni said.
