A grand jury in northeastern Kansas on Monday completed a controversial investigation of Planned Parenthood without issuing any indictments.
Retired Judge Larry McClain, special counsel to the Johnson County grand jury, said that jurors unanimously asked to withdraw their original subpoena for records of patients who'd had abortions at the Planned Parenthood clinic in Overland Park, a suburb of Kansas City, Mo.
The grand jury was seated Dec. 10 after a citizens’ group gathered enough signatures to request a grand jury investigation. Court documents indicated that the grand jury focused its inquiry on parental notification and a 24-hour waiting period. Still pending is a separate criminal case that Johnson County District Attorney Phill Kline has filed against Planned Parenthood.
