CNN announced Wednesday that Kathy Griffin will no longer host the network’s New Year’s Eve program following a photoshoot that depicted Griffin holding President Donald Trump’s severed head.
TMZ published pictures from the photoshoot Tuesday night, prompting swift backlash against the comedian. Griffin has since apologized, saying she now knows the picture was “too far.”
I am sorry. I went too far. I was wrong. pic.twitter.com/LBKvqf9xFB

Trump called the photo “sick” and said his children are “having a hard time with this” in a tweet Wednesday morning. First Lady Melania Trump called it “very disturbing” and questioned Griffin’s mental health.
In addition to her losing the CNN job, a New Mexico casino said it was canceling a July live engagement, and she has lost a commercial endorsement she landed just weeks ago.
Several CNN employees voiced disgust with the photo before CNN’s official announcement.
For the record, I am appalled by the photo shoot Kathy Griffin took part in. It is clearly disgusting and completely inappropriate.

All of it frankly makes me sick. And seeing these actions only through a lens of partisanship or self is bizarre to me.
