MODESTO, Calif. _ As her due date approached in August, Hanna Overholtzer was dreading the process of delivering her third child.
She had a previous C-section and she felt sick during the final weeks of her recent pregnancy.
"I kept telling myself, 'Why are you scared? It's not like women die in childbirth anymore,' " she said last week.
On Aug. 18, the 28-year-old Denair woman gave birth to her son Cooper at Modesto's Doctors Medical Center. But then things went terribly wrong. Doctors and nurses who worked on Hanna say she's lucky to be alive and marvel that she came home from the hospital with her sharp mind and vivacious personality intact.
