California State University campuses will not accept nearly all student applications for the 2010 spring term due to budget reductions, the 23-college system announced.

In addition, officials said that campuses on the quarter system have stopped accepting admission applications for the 2010 winter term.

CSU typically admits more than 35,000 freshmen, undergraduate transfer and graduate students during the spring term, according to the university.

The state system is trying to reduce enrollment by 40,000 students for 2010-2011. The decision to close spring admissions is part of that reduction effort.
