Commentary: For everyone's safety, Army needs to respect whistle-blowers

The Army must reassure the Blue Grass Army Depot's workers and neighbors that the atmosphere for employees who raise safety concerns is not as toxic as the stuff they're guarding.
The public recently learned that possible leaks of deadly VX nerve agent at the Army facility in Richmond went unmonitored for almost two years because equipment was improperly installed.
The scientist who brought this and other dangerous shortcomings to light did not receive a commendation or raise. Instead, he was reprimanded for having a negative attitude and not trusting his supervisors. He was demoted and says he was eventually forced to resign.
