Abortion notification measure defeated in California

California voters have rejected changing the state constitution to require doctors to notify a parent or guardian 48 hours before performing an abortion for a girl under the age of 18.
More than 52 percent voted no on Proposition 4, while nearly 48 percent voted yes, with more than 98 percent of precincts reporting.
The third time in four years that supporters put parental notification on the ballot, Proposition 4 was the product of the determination and money of abortion opponents. The measure's opposition, led by Planned Parenthood and its affiliates, was also well-funded.
