New Obama ad focuses on Corning plant in Pennsylvania

COLLEGE TOWNSHIP — Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has made the closing of the former Corning plant in College Township the centerpiece of a new TV campaign commercial that attacks Republican rival John McCain over the economy.
The ad, titled "Sold," was to air across the nation starting Wednesday and was the focus of a campaign conference call led by Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell early Wednesday afternoon.
The ad depicts former Corning employees in front of the East College Avenue plant as superimposed texts says "hundreds lose their jobs" and "Washington sold them out."
The ad also uses images of factories that are not the former Corning plant before it dissolves to an image of McCain and the image of a locked factory gate, with the superimposition saying Corning employees were "hired to ship the equipment to China" and "Washington sold them out."
The ad goes on to suggest that McCain supported “tax breaks for companies that ship jobs overseas,” that he “voted against cracking down on unfair trade practices.”
"We can’t afford more of the same," the ad concludes.
