Texas legislator: Scrap system likely to give Obama edge

A key supporter of Sen. Hillary Clinton called Thursday for Texas to scrap the confusing primary-caucus hybrid system of selecting delegates that is likely to result in Barack Obama gaining more delegates in Texas even though he lost the popular vote.
State Sen. Juan Hinojosa, a McAllen Democrat, said he intends to push his proposal at the party's state convention this summer. But it would not affect the still-being-tabulated results from Tuesday night's caucuses.
Clinton received about 101,000 more votes than Obama in Tuesday's voting, giving her 65 of the 126 convention delegates awarded based on the popular vote. Early trends from the caucuses, however, suggest Obama will win 37 of those 67, giving him a total of 98 delegates, to Clinton's 95.
