Two more athletes with ties to the Central Coast are headed to the Beijing Olympics.
Former Cal Poly first baseman and outfielder Jimmy Van Ostrand was selected Wednesday to the 24-man roster for the Canadian Olympic baseball team.
Also Wednesday, Chris Seitz, who began his high school career at San Luis Obispo High, was named to the U.S. Men's Olympic soccer team as a goalie.
Van Ostrand plays for the Houston Astros' Hi-A Salem Avalanche in the Carolina League after playing for the Lexington (Ky.) Legends in 2007.
Seitz played only one season at San Luis Obispo High before concluding his high school career in Thousand Oaks. He then played at the University of Maryland, leading the Terrapins to the 2005 NCAA championship. He was the first freshman goalie to lead his team to an NCAA title since 1990.
