Erika Bolstad covers Washington for the Anchorage Daily News and the Idaho Statesman.
Her work on the Larry Craig scandal for the Statesman was a finalist for the 2007 Pulitzer Prize in the breaking news category.
She came to the McClatchy Washington bureau in 2007 from the Miami Herald, where she spent seven years covering politics, the state legislature, local government and hurricanes — including Hurricane Katrina from New Orleans. Prior to working at the Herald, Bolstad spent three years as a reporter at the News & Record in Greensboro, N.C. She began her career covering military affairs at The Item in Sumter, S.C.
Bolstad was born in Minneapolis, Minn., and raised in Willamina and Salem, Ore. She is a graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington, Va.
Like most — if not all — Republicans, Rep. Mike Simpson said Thursday he will vote against the legislation. Rep. Walt Minnick, a Democrat whose vote is highly sought by top House leaders in his party, said Friday that he, too, will vote "no" on the bill. » read more
