Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Friday 9 January 2009

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.
Baghdad
A roadside bomb targeted worshipers in al Bawi Mosque in Maamil neighbourhood, northeastern Baghdad after they finished prayers at around 1.30 p.m. Friday killing one and injuring six.
Basra
Gunmen fired three Katusha rockets on different neighborhoods in Basra, Thursday evening. One of the rockets hit al Mwafaqiyah neighborhood in the vicinity of a security checkpoint inuring four civilians yet. Eyewitnesses said that the security people manning the checkpoint opened fire randomly injuring more civilians. Dr. Ibrahim Abood from Fayha Hospital confirmed that the hospital received 20 injuries. The British military confirmed that four civilians were injured as a result of the rocket fire but did not confirm that shots were fired by Iraqi security forces causing more civilian injuries.
Kirkuk
A roadside bomb targeted an Iraqi Army vehicle in Tuz district, to the south of Kirkuk city killing one Iraqi soldier, injuring two others.
