logout | member center

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Anbar

Gunmen opened fire upon a checkpoint in Bhadeed al-Nasir killing one soldier and seriously injuring four others.

Four to five gunmen in a speeding car opened fire from machine guns at a checkpoint manned with local police killing one policeman, injuring another.

Sulaimaniyah

Turkish aircraft raided the villages close to the Iraq Turkey border on Qindeel Mountain between 10 and 11 p.m. Thursday killing one member of the Kurdish PKK. The air raid penetrated farther into Sulaimaniyah province and struck many villages and destroyed one house in Bra Day. Two civilians have been injured and officials expect more casualties to be reported from the remote villages.
