Boehner Benghazi Attack

Speaker of the House John Boehner is asked about the special select committee he has formed to investigate the deadly 2012 attack on the U.S. diplomatic post in Benghazi, Libya

The Republicans’ congressional campaign committee is seeking donations as it blogs about the creation of a new committee to investigate the 2012 Benghazi attacks.

Democrats--and some Republicans--have been critical. But House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, wouldn’t give a direct answer Thursday when asked whether it’s appropriate.

Here’s the Q and A at his weekly news conference:

QUESTION: Four Americans died in Benghazi. Should the NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee) fund-raise off your effort of the select committee?

BOEHNER: Our focus is on getting the answers to those families who lost their loved ones, period.

QUESTION: But should the NRCC seize -- they're fund-raising out there right now. Is that...

BOEHNER: Our focus -- our focus is getting the truth for these four families and for the American people.

QUESTION: But the campaign committee became -- are very involved in just fund-raising off of this. Why is that happening?

BOEHNER: Our focus is on getting the truth for the American people and these four families.
