Thom Tillis wins NC primary to face Sen. Kay Hagan in November

Republican Thom Tillis won more than 40 percent of the vote in the North Carolina primary on Tuesday, setting up what's expected to be a highly competitive race against Democratic Sen. Kay Hagan.

With backing from business and Washington Republican players, including Karl Rove, Tillis easily beat his leading rivals, tea party favorite Greg Brannon and Charlotte pastor Mark Harris.

“It’s not the end of the primary.; it’s really the beginning of the primary mission – it’s been our mission all along – to defeat Kay Hagan and make Harry Reid irrelevant,” Tillis after his victory was clear Tuesday night. “Kay Hagan and Harry Reid are nothing but an echo chamber for President Obama’s worst ideas.”
