Inalva Mendes Brito's backyard in Vila Autodromo, Rio de Janeiro, borders a heavily polluted lagoon. Brito, a 65-year-old schoolteacher, and her husband, Elias Serafim, live just a few minutes from the planned site for the Olympic athlete village. They are among the thousands of residents of Vila Autodromo and other neighborhoods like it who are being asked to sacrifice their homes to accommodate the 2016 summer games.
