Travis and Tina Fisher found the rural life they longed for when they built their home on 3 acres just west of New Plymouth.

Surrounded by farms, corn fields and tree-lined irrigation canals that attracted ducks, pheasants and deer, the former Fruitland residents didn’t care about the gas-metering building on the corner of their property.

When a man from a company working with Bridge Resources Corp. came by to buy the rights to drill for natural gas, the Fishers were skeptical, despite the economic potential it held for the region.

“They badgered us for four months and we finally capitulated,” Travis Fisher said.

The prospect of a nearby well was one thing. What happened next was something else.
