MANATEE -- Surveillance cameras recording our activities are everywhere.

That fact was brought home recently when the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office used information from digital surveillance cameras to help apprehend a suspect in a sexual assault case that occurred near Bayshore High School.

Not only did detectives have surveillance from Bayshore High itself, but also from a nearby homeowner with his own digital surveillance equipment, said sheriff’s spokesman Dave Bristow.

Cameras also produced fairly sharp images of individuals suspected in about 13 recent armed robberies and, most recently, are helping Sarasota police try to explain the killing of two British tourists in Newtown.

There’s just no escaping them: Surveillance cameras in Manatee are ubiquitous.
