Tea party group wants Duke Energy chief fired over DNC offer

email this story print this story jump to comments

FreedomWorks, a conservative group aligned with the tea party movement, has launched a petition drive to fire Duke Energy CEO Jim Rogers for guaranteeing a $10 million line of credit to the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

FreedomWorks President and CEO Matt Kibbe announced the drive in a "Dear Tea Party Patriot Activist" letter.

Rogers, he wrote, "grabbed headlines when he scandalously offered the Democratic National Committee (DNC) a $10 million 'line of credit' ... Rogers has long flirted with President Obama and his radical Leftist agenda, using his position ... to advance controversial partisan policies such as cap and trade."

FreedomWorks, chaired by former GOP House Majority Leader Dick Armey, claims to have nearly 13,000 signatures on its online petition to Duke's board.
