This is the text of Communique No. 2 issued by the Egyptian military. The statement was issued Friday, Feb. 11, prior to the announcement that President Hosni Mubarak had resigned. McClatchy Special Correspondent Miret El Naggar translated.

The armed forces guarantees the following: lifting the state of emergency once the current circumstances end, carrying out the electoral appeals, carrying out the legislative elections, committing to the necessary constitutional amendments, carrying free and fair presidential elections according to the constitutional amendments.

The armed forces also commits to protecting the legitimate demands of the people and ensure their execution according to the specified timetable until there is a peaceful transfer of power which the people are anticipating, and which will lead to a free society. We guarantee there will be no legal pursuit of the honorables who rejected corruption and demanded reform. And we call on the citizens that work has to be regulated at the state facilities, and the return of normal life to protect safety and private possessions and places.
