Top paying jobs in South Carolina? Building automobiles

The top job-making machine in South Carolina today is the state’s sprawling $29 billion-a-year automotive industry, a new report released Wednesday confirms. It accounts for 5.4 percent of the state’s total employment base.

Roughly 85,000 full-time positions are owed to automotives in the state — particularly the manufacturing of military vehicles — said The South Carolina Automotive Council report, the first in-depth study of the state’s automotive and ground transportation cluster ever done.
