U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski made the rounds at the Alaska Women's Show on Sunday, where fans stopped her after every step or two to shake her hand, take her picture or thank her for a risky run as a write-in candidate. Democrat Scott McAdams stood on the back of a pickup truck at his Anchorage campaign headquarters in Midtown as he fired up a crowd of dozens who turned out in parkas and knitted caps for a barbecue and fundraiser pitched as "37 Days 'til Victory."

And Republican Joe Miller, whose tea party-backed upset of Murkowski in the primary sent the state's political establishment reeling, shot a campaign ad at the Hotel Captain Cook, then hopped on a plane for a fundraiser in Seattle. He'll be back in Alaska today, campaigning in Ketchikan before a campaign trip to the East Coast, said his campaign spokesman, Randy DeSoto.

It's midway between the August primary and the November general election, and the campaigns for U.S. Senate are heating up.

McAdams, who believes he has a chance without Murkowski's name on the ballot, is still introducing himself to voters. He says he's the working man's candidate, the education candidate, the progressive. He's Sitka's mayor, and his day job is community schools director for the Sitka School District.
