Bellingham resident Kenton C. Doughty has been a well-respected water-quality scientist who worked to improve salmon habitat on many bodies of water in the Pacific Northwest.
His more than 20 years of experience in that field produced published work that has been widely cited. In 2007 he was earning $130,000 annually and was the owner of a $750,000, 2,000-square foot home on Lummi Island, according to court filings.
Despite his past successes, however, detectives with the Northwest Regional Drug Task Force allege he warrants another descriptor: heroin dealer.
Doughty, 54, was arrested Wednesday, Sept. 8, while riding a bicycle into downtown Bellingham to allegedly deal various drugs, drug task force Commander Rick Sucee said in a statement.
