Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Monday 23 August, 2010

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

One mortar round landed in New Baghdad neighbourhood, east Baghdad, early Monday, without causing any casualties or damages.

Two mortar rounds slammed into the Green Zone at 7 p.m. Sunday. No casualties were reported.

A home made bomb hidden inside a plastic carrier bag that was left inside a caffe in Saidiyah neighbourhood, south Baghdad, detonated at 8 p.m. Sunday, killing two young men and injuring twelve other civilians.

A magnetic bomb that was stuck to a pick-up truck, detonated in Furat neighbourhood, at 9.30 p.m. Sunday, seriously injuring two policemen in plain clothes inside it.

Armed men opened fire at a pickup-truck in Kathimiyah neighbourhood, northwest Baghdad at 10 p.m. Sunday, seriously injuring two people inside it, a retired army Brig. Gen. and his brother.

Diyala

Armed men shot and killed Qassim Chaloob, Sahwa commander of Mifraq area at 10 p.m. Friday, while he was on his way home from evening prayers.

One unidentified body was found in Saadiyah district, Khallis, 15 km to the north of Baquba. The young man had been hand-bound and blindfolded, then shot several times.

Nineveh

The body of a farmer was found in Namrod neighbourhood, south Mosul, Monday.

A roadside bomb targeted a motorcade carrying a group of judges, in Tayaran Square, central Mosul, Thursday. The explosion injured four Iraqi security force members, including two oficers.
