Mysterious foam not oil from the spill but algae

BAY ST. LOUIS — Preliminary reports show a rusty-looking substance that washed into the Bay of St. Louis and onto beaches on Sunday was algae, said Hancock County Emergency Manager Brian Adam.

"They're not finished, (the Department of Environmental Qaulity) is waiting to finish all the tests," Adam said. "But they did say preliminary tests show it was algae."

A DEQ spokesman said that tests on the substance collected on Sunday night be completed today.
