A Topeka, Kan.-based group that has picketed U.S. soldiers' funerals is looking to spread its message during a tour next month along the Grand Strand.

Protests at area schools and churches are listed on Westboro Baptist Church's picket schedule. According to the schedule, stops include North Myrtle Beach-based Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church, and Barefoot Church on May 16; and Conway, Carolina Forest, Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, and St. James high schools on May 21.

Shirley Phelps-Roper, daughter of Fred Phelps, who started the Westboro church in 1955, said the group chose the Myrtle Beach area because it had not been in the area before.
