Top of the morning, and don't forget to wear a bit of the green.

It's St. Patrick's Day, for anyone who'd forgotten. And, in Kansas City, that means it's a parade day. The Kansas City St. Patrick's Day Parade is a long-standing tradition that just keeps getting better. It's so good, in fact, that the city boasted several lead-ins last weekend.

The original parades here, back in the 1800s, were organized by the Irish Benevolent Society and contained a good bit of church and boasted marchers including police and firemen. This year's parade — a new tradition kicked off in 1974 by Mike Murphy — includes an homage to that tradition, as New York City firefighters will be the special guests.

The parade today, of course a celebration of all things Irish and a long-established day of leave from Lenten vows, is well worth a late morning look.
