In its quest to balance the budget, city leaders in O'Fallon, Ill., will consider increasing burial fees at the town cemetery.

The City Council on Monday will consider increasing the cost of a plot from $200 to $600, burial of an adult during a weekday from $450 to $800 and on a weekend or a holiday from $500 to $1,000 and cremation from $100 to $250-$300.

"Raising fees is long overdue," said Mary Jeanne Hutchison, Director of the O'Fallon Parks Department, which oversees the cemetery. "The last time we raised it was exactly 10 years ago in December of 1999, which was before I was here."

Hutchison said a proposal to increase the fees was floated -- and rejected -- two years ago.

Also to be considered is an increase in the cost of burial fees for infants.
