CLOVER -- Gov. Mark Sanford brought his Rotary Club road show Wednesday to the First Baptist Church in downtown Clover, South Carolina, asking a lunchtime crowd to help him make the most of his final 14 months in office.

Politically isolated in Columbia as legislators plot to impeach him, the governor spends much of his time speaking to Rotary audiences in small towns, where folks laugh at his jokes and treat him nicer.

About the only thing that seems to change is what's for lunch. In Clover, it was chicken cordon bleu, macaroni and cheese and green beans catered by Jackson's Kitchen.

I just want to begin with the obvious, which is to say I'm sorry for letting many of you down,” Sanford told 50 listeners, marking the only reference to his extramarital affair with a woman in Argentina.

Sanford hopes to make one last push for reform in the legislative term that starts in January. He calls for abolishing the Budget and Control Board, having the governor and lieutenant governor run on the same ticket and imposing spending caps to avoid debt.
