Duke Energy has picked the first four sites for its $50 million solar rooftops program, which will install enough solar panels to power about 1,300 homes.

The sites: National Gypsum Co.'s manufacturing plant in Mount Holly; a Highwood Properties industrial building in Greensboro; Food Lion's distribution center in Salisbury; and a Childress Klein Properties distribution center in Charlotte.
