A Cayce, S.C., online business hit the jackpot last week with a sales spike of sodium silicate — the approved chemical killer for gas guzzlers traded in under the federal cash for clunkers program.

John See, owner of the ChemistryStore.com, typically sells about 150 gallons of sodium silicate a year, mostly for use to waterproof masonry. Last week, he sold 4,600 gallons.

The last shipment was picked up Monday morning, and by Tuesday business was back to normal, See said.
