WASHINGTON — Instead of trying to legislate education reform, groups including governors and the College Board have started developing new national standards that states could adopt voluntarily.
On Friday, the Campaign for High School Equity, a coalition of civil rights groups, held a Congressional briefing to discuss how they can help develop the new standards.
At least 46 states have signed onto the Common Core Standards Initiative.
Alaska, Missouri, South Carolina and Texas had not signed as of June 1, 2009.
