The fog of cyberwar

John Murrell at Good Morning Silicon Valley writes that it's easy to get caught up in the enthusiasm over Twitter's newly prominent place in people-power politics in the aftermath of the disputed Iranian election.

"This week has been a signature moment for the microblogging service, a moment like those enjoyed previously by other technologies — fax machines, text messaging, camera phones — when events revealed their power to circumvent the political and media establishment. But it took only a few days for the sunlight to become shrouded by the cloud of uncertainty that hangs low over every battlefield, and now the view is obscured by suspicion and disinformation, entrapment and evasion, false flags and cat's paws."
