Wind energy plant and 400 jobs coming to Kansas

Siemens AG has picked Kansas for a $50 million facility to build wind turbines.

The $50 million facility will be built in Hutchinson, Kan., and will create 400 jobs. Construction is expected in begin in August and the first turbines shipped in December 2010.

This is a win-win-win for Siemens, Kansas and our customers, said Randy Swim, head of Siemens Energy in North America.

Siemens, the third largest provider of wind turbines in the U.S., said the plant will allow it to better meet the demand for wind turbines in North and South America. It noted that Kansas is ranked No. 3 for its wind energy potential.

Mark Parkinson, governor of Kansas, said in a statement the plant was a step in helping the state recover economically and a huge step in making the state a hub for wind energy.
