As the economy continues to wheeze and cough, 14 Downtown Boise businesses closed or fled for the suburbs between September and March, but 22 new ones have opened or are in the process of opening.

In 2008, the net loss of Downtown retail and restaurant businesses was two.

“While Downtown Boise has certainly felt the effect of the economic crisis, the actual impact on Downtown has been less severe than other parts of the country and other parts of the Treasure Valley,” said Adam Park, city spokesman.

THE STATS

Downtown office and retail vacancy rates are up, but not as much as they are in other areas.
