Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Saturday 28 March 2009

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

16 people were injured (seven Sahwa members, four Iraqi soldiers and four civilians) after clashes broke out between the Iraqi army and Sahwa members in Fadhil neighborhood in downtown Baghdad around 2 p.m. The clashes broke out during an operation of the Iraqi army to arrest the leader of Fadhil Sahwa and one of his deputies. Five Iraqi soldiers were kidnapped in the incident.

Karbala

Gunmen assassinated a member of Baath Party and his brother in south Karbala city early morning.

Nineveh

Four people were wounded including a policeman by a parked car bomb in Somer neighborhood in south Mosul around 2 p.m.

Gunmen opened fire randomly in Palestine neighborhood in south Mosul killing one civilian and injuring two others.

An Iraqi soldier was injured by a roadside bomb that targeted his patrol in al Zohoor neighborhood in north Mosul.

Gunmen opened fire in downtown Mosul targeting a police patrol. One policeman was injured in the incident.
