Reducing carbon emissions may not be enough to solve global warming issues, climate scientist Ken Caldeira says.

Caldeira advocates the study of geoengineering, a controversial but potentially promising way to help cool Earth. Geoengineering proposals have ranged from planting trees to absorb carbon dioxide to spritzing sea water into the clouds to make them brighter and reflect more sun.

The geoengineering project Caldeira is interested in would use sulfur dioxide added to Earth's stratosphere to cool the planet.
