Roundup of Daily Violence in Iraq - Wednesday 18 February 2009

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

- Gunmen opened fire on a member of the Islamic party near a bank in Zafaraniyah neighborhood in southeast Baghdad around 9 a.m. Samir Safwat, the Isalmic party member was killed at once.

Mosul

-A roadside bomb targeted a police patrol in Suq alMash in western Mosul. One policeman was killed with damage to his car.

Kirkuk

- Two roadside bombs detonated in front of an emergency police patrol in Tareeq Baghdad neighborhood in Kirkuk in the morning. No casualties reported.

-A roadside bomb targeted a security company's ( the 77 company for private security service)patrol on the way between Kirkuk and Tikrit around 2:30 a.m. One member was killed and two others were wounded.

Basra - Initial reports indicate four Iraqi civilians were killed and several others were injured when a civilian bus struck a Coalition armored vehicle while the Coalition vehicle was parked on the outskirts of Basra at approximately 9 p.m. Feb. 17.
