Round-up of Daily Violence in Iraq - Friday 6 February 2009

The daily Iraq violence report is compiled by McClatchy Newspapers Special Correspondents in Baghdad from police, military and medical reports. This is not a comprehensive list of all violence in Iraq, much of which goes unreported. It's posted without editing as transmitted to McClatchy's Washington Bureau.

Baghdad

A roadside bomb planted by the wall of a store that sells alcoholic beverages in the main thoroughfare of Mansour neighbourhood, western Baghdad was found by a police patrol and later detonated at 10.45 p.m. Friday under control causing material damages to the store.

Gunmen in a speeding car threw a hand grenade at a supermarket in 14 Ramadhan Street in Mansour, western Baghdad at 10.30 p.m. causing material damages to the store.

Nineveh

Abdulmajeed al Nuaimi, member of the incumbent provincial council in Mosul reported a strange object next to the outside wall of his home. When the Iraqi army responded, they found a roadside bomb, and were able to detonate it under control causing no damages or casualties.

Basra

Police forces found and safely defused a 5 km bomb planted by the outer wall of the mosque in Iblah neighbourhood, northern Basra, where Ali al Safi, one of the prominent representatives of Grand Ayatollah Ali al Sistani gives sermons.
